The "Forschungskolleg Tanzwissenschaft" of the Deutsches Tanzarchiv Köln (DTK) and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (HfMT) makes Cologne an ideal location for dance research.
The DTK has one of the world's most renowned and extensive collections of estates, photographs, historical journals and newspaper clippings. In addition, there are current publications, video recordings, works of visual art, and much more on all areas of dance history. It thus provides an excellent basis for research in dance studies. Through the exhibitions in the affiliated Dance Museum, it is also involved in the broad communication of dance history. At the same time, the HfMT is one of the few institutions in Germany to offer a doctoral program explicitly in dance studies. This is part of a steadily expanding research orientation of FB7/ZZT. With the MA program in Dance Studies, the implementation of research projects and international conferences, as well as Artistic Research in the artistic degree programs, it offers a versatile and inspiring context for a whole range of research on dance.
Since 2012, the DTK has been an affiliated institute of the university with the aim of consolidating the collaborations between the two institutions. This includes expanding collaboration in areas of teaching and research, especially in the area of post-graduate research projects. The "Forschungskolleg Tanzwissenschaft" is another building block for this. It makes an important contribution to the promotion of dance studies research and at the same time highlights the importance of the archive for dance studies research.
In addition, it responds to a need of international scholars who require a university connection in Germany to apply for research grants (DAAD, Fulbright, etc.) for the promotion of their research projects/residencies at the German Dance Archive Cologne. The "Forschungskolleg Tanzwissenschaft" offers both institutional and content-related connections. Foreign doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers can not only obtain the status of guest students and guest researchers, but can also benefit from participation in colloquia, symposia and workshops and exchange with doctoral students in the field of dance studies and international guests. For the duration of their stay (1-6 months) in the colloquium, the researchers will be supervised by the Chair of Dance Studies. Furthermore, the guests of the "Forschungskolleg Tanzwissenschaft" receive preferential access (extended opening hours) to the DTK.
The Forschungskolloquium is interested in supporting high-caliber and interdisciplinary research that explicitly works with the holdings of the DTK. To this end, the Forschungskolleg announces grants, organizes symposia, and issues publications. Please note current calls for proposals.
