Applications for the summer semester are only possible for the Teacher in Music (Bachelor and Master), Protestant/Catholic Church Music (Bachelor and Master) and Pre-College Cologne and Jungstudium degree programmes.
The aptitude tests for teaching degree programmes are expected to take place as follows
Bachelor of Arts Teacher Training Programme Music:
Written exam: 16 November 2024
Practical examinations: 16 - 17 December 2024
The registration deadline ends on 1 October 2024
Master of Education Teacher Training Programme Music (with second subject):
18 December 2024
The aptitude tests for Church Music (Bachelor and Master) and Pre-College Cologne are expected to take place in January/February 2025.
The Cologne University of Music and Dance with its campuses in Cologne, Aachen and Wuppertal charges all applicants a fee of € 50.00 for participating in the admission procedure (in the case of applications for several degree programmes, the fee is only charged once).

Reimbursement
Please note that a refund of the fee is generally excluded, even if the application is cancelled. The fee will be refunded as an exception in cases where the university is unable to offer places on the degree programme for which you have applied at short notice for capacity reasons.
A certificate of general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) is required to study at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. This can be replaced by a certificate recognized as equivalent by a competent state authority.
A subject-specific aptitude test is required for admission to all artistic and artistic-pedagogical degree programs at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
There are special admission requirements for the Master of Arts Musicology, Master of Arts Music Pedagogy and Master of Arts Dance Studies programs as well as the Master of Education Lehramt an Gymnasien und Gesamtschulen.
The admission requirements can be found in the aptitude test regulations for the respective study programs on the corresponding study program pages.
Studying without Abitur
The following applies to the artistic Bachelor of Music programmes: If you have a special artistic talent, it is also possible to study at the Cologne University of Music and Dance without the above-mentioned certificate (Abitur). To do so, you must have demonstrated your outstanding artistic talent in a special artistic aptitude test. In this case, proof that you have completed your schooling is sufficient.
International applicants
Furthermore, foreign applicants must prove sufficient knowledge of the German language, as language skills are indispensable for successful studies in Germany.

Here we provide you with detailed information on the application process. Take a look at the online tutorial in which we explain the individual steps of an application via the online portal muvac.
The application takes place online via the muvac platform.
First create a profile with muvac and enter all the details on your CV. In your personal profile, you can upload all the necessary documents under the "Documents" tab and, if required, integrate audio and video recordings under the "Media" tab. Upload your video files via muvac when you are asked to do so during the application process.
Then apply via muvac for the desired course of study (vacancy). All information relevant to the application will be requested online. If you are required to submit video files as part of a digital preselection, you must be sure to add the link from your muvac profile to your application in muvac. Submit any missing documents exclusively via muvac.
Please prepare the following documents for your online application and upload them as PDF or easy-to-read image files in muvac:

The application is submitted exclusively as an online application. Submitted application documents in paper form will not be considered.
What is the aptitude test?
In the aptitude test you prove your artistic and/or artistic-pedagogical aptitude for the respective degree program. Please refer to the aptitude test regulations for the contents of the aptitude test.
When is the aptitude test?
After completion of the examination of the complete online application, you will receive an admission to the aptitude test with the exact test dates from the study secretariat of the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
Guest students may be admitted to individual courses (general lectures) upon application within the limits of the available study places. Admission is granted for one semester at a time. Guest auditors are issued with a "Guest Auditor's Certificate", which entitles them to attend the specified courses. Guest students are not entitled to individual instruction and are not entitled to a practice room at the university. Guest students are not covered by health insurance. No fare reduction is granted. They cannot take exams and do not receive transcripts. You can apply for guest auditor status using this document.
