Student financing

What options are there?

In addition to semester fees and expenses for study and learning materials, students also have to pay for rent, living expenses, insurance and leisure activities. To cover these costs, BAföG, the University of Cologne's student support fund and a part-time job are further options for financing your studies.

BAföG

As a student, you receive BAföG if your own financial means and those of your parents or spouse/life partner are not sufficient to finance your studies. Student BAföG is usually granted half as a grant and half as an interest-free loan.

The AStA will gladly advise you on all questions regarding BAföG. The Studierendenwerke will also help you with any questions you may have.

On the pages of the Studierendenwerke you will also find information about other financing options, such as the KfW loan or the Daka loan.

Student Support Fund of the University of Cologne

Students at the Cologne University of Music and Dance can also apply for the Student Support Fund via the University of Cologne. The student support fund is intended to improve the social situation of students. On the one hand, the fund supports students in preparing for their final exams or thesis in the final stage of their studies. On the other hand, projects are supported that improve the social infrastructure of students or serve health care. For example, money from the fund goes towards measures for students with disabilities or students with children.

Side job

Another way to finance your studies is to take on a part-time job. There are numerous opportunities for this in Cologne, Aachen and Wuppertal. As a student, you are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week without having to pay insurance contributions.

For foreign students, however, there are a few more things to consider. Please inform yourself here.

If you are looking for a part-time job, we can help you:

In addition to the many job offers on the Internet, it is always worth taking a look at the bulletin board next to the refectory or in the glass boxes of the individual departments or other institutions. For example, the Artistic Office, the Central Student Advisory Service, the library, and also the departments are always looking for student assistants.

There are also many music schools in Cologne where you can apply to become a teacher.
