University didactics

Teaching and learning in unison

University didactics deals with all questions concerning teaching and learning at a university of art and music: from the design of (artistic) lessons to giving feedback and testing. In continuing education courses, teachers receive concrete suggestions for their teaching and can exchange ideas with colleagues. In addition, the contact person for university didactics is available to advise on individual questions regarding teaching development and one's own continuing education.

Events for teachers

The Network 4.0 of Music Colleges offers an open continuing education program with high-quality, free events (online and face-to-face) specifically for teachers at music colleges. You can register for events on the homepage. After registration, you will receive the zoom link to the online events.

Critical Response Process

  • Continuation workshop
  • Friday, 10.11.2023 | 10.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
  • Chamber Music Hall - Cologne location

CRP was developed by dancer and choreographer Liz Lerman for artistic teaching. At the center of the method is the design of questions that teachers have for their students or colleagues in order to learn more about the impact of their own teaching and thus to gain options for action to further develop their teaching. The practical implementation of the CRP method is an essential, long-tested element of the onboarding program. In the workshop, you will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the technique of giving and receiving feedback.
Anette von Eichel studied jazz singing at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (NL) with Rachel Gould and Jeanne Lee, among others, and European Expansion History at the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden (NL). She works internationally as a jazz singer and vocal coach and has been a professor of jazz singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln since 2010. Since 2016, Anette von Eichel has served on the board of the German Jazz Union, and since 2021 she has been dean of the jazz/pop department at HfMT Cologne.

For whom?

Teachers and staff of the art and music (high) schools in North Rhine-Westphalia

The onboarding program is aimed at all newly appointed professors and newly hired teachers for special tasks. It includes information events on academic self-administration, workshops on higher education didactics, and peer teaching observations in teaching tandem.

Goals of the Onboarding Program

Newly appointed professors and newly hired LfbA at HfMT Cologne are

  • are welcomed by the university management and the director of the onboarding program during a welcome day and gain insight into important processes and structures of the university,
  • come into regular exchange with teachers from other subject groups, departments and locations,
  • are invited to colleagues' classes and/or exchange ideas about good practice and challenges in their own teaching in a trusting collegial setting,
  • get to know important contact persons in the administration personally and are informed about processes and support possibilities (e.g. in the planning of events),
  • can approach the onboarding program management at any time if they would like further offers and support on topics of teaching development, academic self-administration and collegial consultation,
  • are - in short - supported as much as possible in familiarizing themselves with the university culture and settling into their new function and role at HfMT.
