Master of Music -
Music Theory

Theory and practice are one.

The consecutive Master's program in Composition is aimed at graduates of a Bachelor's program (or equivalent degree) in Composition. The focus of the course is on deepening and broadening the content of the Bachelor's program as well as on individual orientation and focus formation in analytical-theoretical or artistic terms. Due to its interdisciplinary orientation, the study of composition opens up a wide range of professional fields. It qualifies students for teaching music theory at music colleges, universities, conservatories and music schools as well as for artistic-creative work as composers, arrangers and adaptors. In addition, it qualifies students for a wide range of activities in the concert business, radio, feature pages, publishing houses, cultural institutions, etc. Increasing attention is being paid to the possibility of specialization in the direction of film and media music / audio design, for which the study of music composition provides excellent qualifications. Cologne, the "media city", is proving to be a locational advantage, which the Cologne University of Music and Dance seeks to exploit through networking with the institutions located here (academies, festivals, broadcasting companies, etc.).

If you have any questions about the program, please contact the relevant person(s).
